Caribbean Premier League 2026

Seven Teams, New Captains and a New Era of Caribbean Cricket

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 is officially underway, bringing another season of explosive T20 cricket to the Caribbean with a historic seven-team field, new leadership across several franchises and a return to Jamaica. The 14th edition began on August 7, 2026, and will run through to the grand final on September 20, 2026, at the iconic Kensington Oval in Barbados. The expanded tournament features 39 matches, with 35 league-stage games followed by the playoffs.

Seven Teams Ready for CPL 2026

The biggest change this season is the arrival of the Jamaica Kingsmen, giving CPL seven teams for the first time. The full 2026 lineup is Jamaica Kingsmen, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders. Barbados' franchise has also returned to its former Barbados Tridents identity for the 2026 campaign.

CPL 2026 Captains

The new seven-team era also brings several changes in leadership:

  • Jamaica Kingsmen — Rovman Powell
  • Antigua & Barbuda Falcons — Moeen Ali
  • Barbados Tridents — Chris Green
  • Guyana Amazon Warriors — Imran Tahir
  • St Kitts & Nevis Patriots — Jason Holder
  • Saint Lucia Kings — Roston Chase
  • Trinbago Knight Riders — Nicholas Pooran

Four franchises have new captains this season, while Trinbago Knight Riders have retained Nicholas Pooran after his leadership helped deliver the 2025 championship.

Defending Champions: Trinbago Knight Riders

The team everyone will be chasing is Trinbago Knight Riders. TKR lifted their fifth CPL title in 2025, defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors by three wickets in a dramatic final at Providence Stadium. Nicholas Pooran remains captain as the Knight Riders attempt to defend their crown in an expanded competition.

Guyana Amazon Warriors will also enter 2026 with plenty of confidence after reaching last year's final. Imran Tahir continues as captain, giving the Warriors an experienced leader for another championship campaign.

KickHour's Top Two for CPL 2026

1. Trinbago Knight Riders — KickHour favourite

The defending champions remain our early No. 1. Their championship experience, Nicholas Pooran's leadership and the ability to perform under playoff pressure make TKR the team to beat. Repeating as champions will be difficult with seven teams in the competition, but the Knight Riders have earned the top spot in our pre-tournament prediction.

2. Guyana Amazon Warriors — KickHour second pick

Guyana are our No. 2 contender. They reached the 2025 final and retain a strong competitive identity, while Imran Tahir brings enormous T20 experience to the captaincy. Their bowling attack and big-match experience could make them the most dangerous challenger to TKR.
