Antigua & Barbuda Falcons have done it. From a new franchise finding its feet to Caribbean Premier League champions in just their third season, the Falcons have completed one of the most memorable journeys in their short CPL history.
At Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, the Falcons defeated the Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets in the CPL 2026 final, chasing down 171 with 20 balls still remaining. The victory gave Antigua & Barbuda Falcons their first-ever Caribbean Premier League title.
The Falcons entered the CPL as one of the newer franchises, but their 2026 campaign showed that they were no longer simply learning their way around the tournament.
They finished the league phase strongly, reached the playoffs and then produced two extraordinary performances when the pressure was at its highest.
In Qualifier 1, the Falcons dismantled the Guyana Amazon Warriors for just 76, before racing to 77/1 in only 5.2 overs. Shadab Khan took a remarkable 4/16, including a hat-trick, while Sufyan Moqim claimed 4/13. Rahkeem Cornwall then smashed 49 from 16 balls to complete a nine-wicket victory.
That performance sent the Falcons directly into their first CPL final.
One match later, they were champions.
Jamaica Kingsmen won the toss and chose to bat, and for much of their innings, it looked as though they had found the perfect way to put pressure on the Falcons.
Maaz Sadaqat produced a spectacular final.
The Pakistani batter smashed 114 from just 58 balls, hitting eight fours and nine sixes. His innings included the first century in a CPL final and carried Jamaica to 170/9 from their 20 overs.
But the Falcons had an answer of their own.
And his name was Sufyan Moqim.
The left-arm wrist-spinner delivered one of the most important spells of the night.
Moqim finished with 4/14 from his four overs, restricting Jamaica's lower order and preventing Sadaqat's extraordinary innings from becoming an even larger total.
His spell gave the Falcons a target of 171.
And then their batting unit took over.
The Falcons did not wait for the required run rate to become a problem.
Rahkeem Cornwall smashed 20 runs from the opening over, including two fours and two sixes, immediately telling the Kingsmen that the chase would not be a cautious one.
Cornwall eventually fell from the final delivery of the over, but the damage had already been done.
The Falcons had momentum.
Evin Lewis and Amir Jangoo then combined aggression with control, pushing the chase forward during the Powerplay.
By the end of six overs, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons had reached 76/1.
The required rate was no longer intimidating.
The trophy was beginning to look very close.
After Lewis departed for a valuable 38 from 26 balls, the responsibility moved to Amir Jangoo.
And Jangoo responded like a player who understood the size of the moment.
He produced an unbeaten 57 from 34 balls, striking four fours and three sixes.
At the other end, Hasan Nawaz remained calm and composed.
Nawaz finished unbeaten on 47 from 35 balls, with three fours and three sixes. Together, Jangoo and Nawaz produced the decisive partnership that carried the Falcons across the line.
Their unbeaten partnership was worth 89 runs.
Then came the final blow.
Hasan Nawaz launched the winning runs for six.
The Falcons were champions.
ABF finished on: 173/2 in 16.4 overs
JK: 170/9 in 20 overs
Antigua & Barbuda Falcons won by 8 wickets with 20 balls remaining.
It was not simply a victory.
It was the moment the Falcons officially moved from being a young CPL franchise to becoming CPL champions.
The numbers tell the story.
4 overs • 14 runs • 4 wickets
Moqim's spell was the foundation of the championship victory. He broke through the Kingsmen innings and ensured that Sadaqat's remarkable century could not push Jamaica towards an unreachable total. He was named Player of the Match.
When the final required composure, Jangoo supplied it.
57 off 34 balls*
Four boundaries.
Three sixes.
An unbeaten partnership with Hasan Nawaz.
His half-century arrived at exactly the right time, turning the final phase of the chase into a celebration rather than a contest.
Nawaz's 47 from 35 balls* was an important supporting innings, but his final contribution became the image of the championship.
With the trophy waiting, Nawaz struck the winning six and immediately sent the Falcons players running onto the field.
A fitting ending to a historic night.
Cornwall may not have stayed at the crease for long, but his impact was immediate.
20 runs from 6 balls in the final.
And just days earlier, against Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 1, he had smashed 49 from 16 balls, including six sixes.
When the Falcons needed an explosive start, Cornwall repeatedly provided it.
Shadab's influence stretched beyond one match.
He was the central figure in the Falcons' stunning Qualifier 1 victory, taking 4/16 including a hat-trick and later contributing 33 from only nine balls* against Guyana.
He was also named Player of the Series, finishing with 132 runs and 11 wickets according to the tournament statistics reported after the final.
Another key figure throughout the campaign was Alzarri Joseph.
He took 2/27 in the final, while earlier in the tournament he produced a four-wicket haul against Guyana during the league phase.
His pace and wicket-taking ability gave the Falcons another major weapon throughout their title run.
There is something special about the timeline.
The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons are only in their third CPL season.
