Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League. The franchise announced the move on Tuesday, October 13. It is Yuvraj's first formal coaching job.

Yuvraj, 44, said he is passionate about coaching and is eager to start work with the squad. Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed him, saying his experience and ability to connect with players will strengthen the team.

A Homecoming for Yuvraj

Yuvraj last played for the franchise in 2015, when it was still the Delhi Daredevils. They signed him for a record ₹16 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. He played all 14 matches that season and scored 248 runs.

He now returns to the dugout as a coach. He also reunites with Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain who was recently named the franchise's head coach.

Why Yuvraj Chose Delhi Capitals

🤝 An old bond with the franchise: Yuvraj has said he has a long association with Delhi Capitals and knows the owners well, which made this a special opportunity. He was the franchise's record ₹16 crore signing in 2015.

🎓 A passion for coaching: He called coaching something he is truly passionate about and described the move as the start of a new chapter in his life. After mentoring several India batters informally, this gives him a formal role.

🧠 Working alongside Ganguly: Yuvraj said he is excited to work with Sourav Ganguly, whom he calls "Dada". Having shared a dressing room with him, he joins a head coach he already knows well.

Why This Appointment Is Good News for Delhi

🏆 Big-match pedigree: Yuvraj was one of India's key performers in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup wins.
🏏 Proven batting mentor: Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, Rishabh Pant and Priyansh Arya have all been linked to his guidance.
📈 IPL experience: He played 132 IPL matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets, across six franchises.
🤝 A familiar set-up: His existing bond with the owners and Ganguly should help him settle in quickly.
🎯 A clear goal: Delhi are still chasing a first IPL title, and a stronger batting unit is central to that plan.
